From an assistant director to a successful film actor
Bhagyaraj’s film journey began behind the camera. He became an assistant director under Bharathiraja of ’16 Vayathinile’ and ‘Kizhakke Pogum Rail’. He also contributed to the scenes and scripts of movies like ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’ and ‘Tik Tik Tik’.He appeared briefly in small roles on screen before becoming a film producer. His breakthrough came in 1979 with ‘Suvarilladha Chiththirangal’. The film marked his debut. Bhagyaraj also played a major role in the film.
A career full of unforgettable films
Bhagyaraj has also directed more than 25 films. His filmography includes ‘Oru Kai Oosai’, ‘Mouna Geethangal’, ‘Indru Poi Naalai Vaa’, ‘Vidiyum Varai Kaathiru’, ‘Andha 7 Naatkal’, ‘Thooral Ninnu Pochu’, ‘Darling’, ‘Mundhanai Mudichu’, ‘Dhavani Kanavugal’, ‘Sid Didhu Kavugal’, ‘2’, & Siddi Kanavugal’ Most of these films were commercial successes. Bhagyaraj acted in more than 75 films in his career.
Making his mark in Hindi cinema
Bhagyaraj also ventured into Hindi cinema and successfully remade his Tamil films. One of his most famous Hindi works was ‘Aakhree Raasta’ which was released in 1986. This movie, which was based on his Tamil song ‘Oru Kaidhiyin Diary’, was shown. Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role alongside Sridevi, Jaya Prada, and Anupam Kher. Bhagyaraj later directed Hindi films like ‘Mr. ‘Bechara’ is the ‘Great Pope’.Several of his Tamil blockbusters have been remade in Hindi. ‘Mundhanai Mudichu’ promoted Masterji and Rajesh Khanna, while ‘Enga Chinna Rasa’ was adapted into ‘Beta’.According to Cinemaazi, before entering the film industry, he dropped out of college in Coimbatore and worked several jobs, including as a rickshaw puller and a circus performer in Kakinada.
