Nitesh Tiwari’s first trailer Ramayana: Part 1 has been unveiled, giving the audience a glimpse of one of India’s most popular mythological films. Even the four-minute trailer has been praised for its stunning visuals, large-scale performances and Hollywood-level VFX, production. Namit Malhotra has now revealed the global vision behind the film.In a recent interview with Fandom, Malhotra compared Ramayana to three of the biggest Hollywood franchises – Avatar, Gladiator and The Lord of the Rings.

Explaining how he wants an international audience to connect with the story, Malhotra said that the sentiment at the heart of Ramayana is universal.“Ramayana is like Avatar meets Gladiator in the world of Lord of the Rings, if you can put it together. Lord Vishnu, who is the protector of all life, has to come as avatar to bring good and restore life. It is the oldest known human history for more than 5,000 years,” he said.He also explained that the story follows a god who chooses to become a human to understand the feelings of a person before fulfilling his purpose.“So God comes down as a man and goes through his life in human form to understand the feelings of people, finally to fulfill their role. Then he goes up behind this big screen that is wrapped in a curtain,” added Malhotra.According to the creator, these themes of duty, sacrifice and compassion cross cultures, which makes the story understandable even to audiences who are not familiar with the Indian epic.

Director Nitesh Tiwari said that Ramayana will focus on the emotional journey of its characters as much as their perspective.He described the film as a story of sacrifice, revenge, love and courage, adding that while audiences may expect worldly spectacle, emotional issues remain at the heart of the work.Tiwari also said that the film is not only meant to entertain but also to leave the audience with meaningful feelings after leaving the theatre.

Released worldwide on July 30 on the auspicious occasion of Brahma Muhurat, the four-and-nine-minute trailer opens with Yash‘s Ravana emerges from the shadows before announcing his rule over three realms.As darkness spreads, Lord Vishnu is reborn as Prince Rama, played by Ranbir Kapoor. The trailer then shows the beauty of Ayodhya, Rama’s marriage to Sita (SaiPallavi), and the moment Rama accepts his 14-year exile with Lakshmana, portrayed by Ravie Dubey.The trailer also teases several iconic moments, including the confrontation of Shurpanakha, the abduction of Sita, and the epic battle between Rama and Ravana that features massive battlefields, fantastical creatures, and plenty of action.It ends with Rama’s powerful declaration: “If Ravana is the ruler of the three regions, then all the three regions will see his death.”
Hollywood movies and music
One of the biggest talking points of the trailer has been the visuals, created by Academy Award-winning VFX studio DNEG. The movies show expansive views of Lanka, grand palaces and epic battles rendered with Hollywood-style CGI.The music is also very important, bringing together Oscar winning singer Hans Zimmer and renowned Indian composer AR Rahman. Their score combines orchestral sophistication with Indian spiritual influences, which add emotional weight to the visuals.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana.Planned as a two-parter, Ramayana: Part 1 is slated to release in time for Diwali 2026, while Ramayana: Part 2 is expected to arrive by Diwali 2027.
