A film producer Vikram Bhatt and his wife was arrested in a multi-crime fraud case that he filed Rajasthanin which he was accused of fraud of Rs 30 crore by Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira Group of Companies, based in Udaipur. In a recent interview, he opened up about the help he received from a mentor Mahesh Bhatt at a time that is said to be one of the most difficult things in his life.Prior to Rajasthan High Court denied his bail application, Vikram he spent two and a half months in jail before the high court granted him bail in February this year. When Mahesh While Bhatt never publicly commented on that time, Vikram recently revealed that the film’s veteran congratulated him on his release.Vikram shared that Mahesh has been very close to his family throughout the process. He said in an interview with News18, “His support means a lot. But what could he do? I entered it. How could I talk to him? I was only allowed five minutes a day to talk to anyone. Five minutes is too little. It was over before it even started,” he says.Explaining that it was impossible to communicate directly, Vikram added: “I was not in a place where anyone could reach me. Considering what Mahesh did during the confrontations, Vikram said his mentor felt pressured by what happened. “But it was a rule. And he had no choice. And somewhere, I feel, he restrained himself because he knew that this was a power game.“Mahesh deliberately refrained from saying criticism for fear that it might get worse. “He knew that there was no justice in anything that happened. He was afraid that any word of criticism would disturb the powers that be and I could get into a lot of trouble. So, he refused. And that’s the truth of the matter,” he said.The controversy was based on ‘Tumko Meri Kasam’, Vikram’s 2025 film based on the life of Dr Murdia. The project came to light after SEBI suspected that it was being used to promote Indira IVF during the fundraising phase. A week after the film’s release, Indira IVF withdrew its Rs 3,500-crore IPO from SEBI scrutiny.The film itself failed to make an impact at the box office and received negative reviews from critics.When asked if the lack of Bhatt’s banner made the film fail, Vikram rejected the idea. “Yes, it fell. But I haven’t watched Vishesh’s films in the last 12 years. [even when Mahesh was associated with it]. Many of my songs like ‘Awara Paagal Deewana’, ‘Deewane Huye Paagal’, ‘1920’, ‘Haunted’ and ‘1921’ were not there,” he says.Emphasizing that success ultimately depends on one’s talent, Vikram concluded, “The only role model is your work. There is no other cushion. Any other cushion can be taken away from you. Your talent and hard work is the only thing you can rely on.”
