Tata Motors is creating excitement around the upcoming Sierra EV, which is scheduled to be launched in India on June 30. In its latest teaser, the automaker has showcased an electric SUV that can fight big sand dunes. A new customer report shows that the Sierra EV is taking over the prestigious Tel Moreeb location in Abu Dhabi. Tel Moreeb, which is 300 meters high and has a slope of 50 degrees, is known as one of the longest sand dunes in the world. If the trailer is anything to go by, Tata is trying to prove that the Sierra EV can combine everyday utility with real off-road capability.The teaser also offers another look at the production of the Sierra EV. While the overall silhouette remains the same as the ICE version, the electric version gets a few EV updates. At the front, the traditional grille gives way to a closed-body bodywork that stretches the nose. Integrated LED DRLs sit above the main headlamps, while integrated LED fog lamps are also seen.At the rear, the Sierra EV gets full LED headlights, a solid bumper and a silver skid plate. One of the major features confirmed by the latest teaser is Tata’s Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) technology. The dual-motor AWD setup is expected to be reserved for larger models, while lower trims may get a single-motor configuration.Internally, the Sierra EV is expected to be positioned as one of Tata Motors’ flagship electric vehicles. Lower models can have a dual-screen display, while higher-end models can have a three-screen display similar to the ICE-powered Sierra. Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone calling, a power tailgate and a 360-degree camera. Tata is also expected to offer connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.The Sierra EV is expected to sit between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV in Tata’s electric vehicle lineup. A range of batteries can be selected in 55 kWh and 65 kWh units, while the latter models can borrow the larger 75 kWh pack from the Harrier EV. Tata may also extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, allowing customers to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery and choose a subscription battery plan.Once launched, the Sierra EV will take on rivals like the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
