Malayalam producer Dinesh Panickerone of the producers of the famous film ‘Kireedam’, looked back at ‘Chenkol’, a sequel to the beloved classic.While he appreciates the film’s success, he admits that several aspects of the sequel have been years in the making.In an interview with Movie World Media, Dinesh recalled expressing his concerns when the talks to make ‘Chenkol’ started.“It was ‘Kireedam’ that gave us all our identity. When Unni told me that they decided to make ‘Chenkol’, I expressed my disagreement. As someone who was part of making ‘Kireedam’, I felt that I should be recognized. I wasn’t asking for money. I just wanted at least a ‘thank you’ card in the loan. But I never heard that. I had a little disagreement with him about it. Even so, I was very happy that Chenkol was a success.“

Although Dinesh enjoyed watching ‘Chenkol’, he believes that the sequel could not replicate the impact of ‘Kireedam’. He recalled watching the film with his family on opening day and felt the difference between the two films.According to him, the show ‘Kireedam’ had a unique energy that was difficult to imitate. He said that many viewers feel that the sequel has several flaws compared to the original.“My family and I watched the film on the very first day. I loved ‘Chenkol’, but I felt that the positive energy that was present in the scenes of ‘Kireedam’ was missing somehow. There was not a single flaw in the portrayal of “Kireedam”.

The producer also gave his opinion on how Thilakan’s character was written in the drama. He said the man, who was admired for his bravery in ‘Kireedam’, looked very weak in ‘Chenkol’, which many audiences noticed.Dinesh believes that this change became one of the talking points among the audience after the film’s release.“The character played by Thilakan Chettan, who faced big challenges and family problems with great strength in the first film, was weakened in the second part. Viewers have said that this was one of the biggest disappointments of the film.Another creative decision that continues to haunt Dinesh is the ‘Chenkol’ theme. He revealed that he did not agree with the decision to terminate Mohanlal‘s character journey in the film.According to him, keeping this character would allow the story to continue in another direction if the producers decided to return the franchise.“Though I like the entire film, I still feel that Mohanlal’s character should not be killed in the end. Had this not happened, Unni could have made the third phase if he wanted to. “
