India’s disappointing 2-0 T20I series defeat against Ireland drew criticism from the former batsman Manoj Tiwarywho questioned who would take responsibility for the team’s poor performance. Despite entering the series as two-time defending T20 champions, India struggled with the conditions and failed to deliver with the bat in both matches.Tiwary suggested that the focus should not be on the captain alone Shreyas Iyerwhich came under scrutiny after the defeat. Instead, he argued that the management of the team and the support staff, led by the coach Gautam Gambhirmust also be responsible for the result.Speaking in a video posted on his X account, Tiwary raised concerns about what he described as “the elephant in the room” and wondered why the role of management was not discussed after the series loss.“India could go on to win the World Cup in South Africa. But what about the T20I series lost against Ireland? Who will be responsible for this? I said to address the elephant in the room, but no one believed my words. We know that PR agencies and friends of the so-called decision-maker will start pinpointing the blame on Shreyas Iyer,” said Manoj Tiwayy. The former India batsman stressed that the defeat was a collective failure and warned against singling out Iyer for criticism. According to Tiwary, the entire batting unit has struggled, and the role of the coaching staff should also be examined.“It is not only the fault of Shreyas Iyer as a batsman, but it is also the fault of the other batsmen who could not do it. The mechanism has to angle and pinpoint Shreyas Iyer for this loss of the series. It is not the players, but the elephant that feels quietly in the way, and most of the time they pass without addressing.
