Diljit Dosanjh‘Satluj’, which was earlier titled ‘Punjab 95’, has been pulled from ZEE5 in India until further notice, soon after it started airing. The film, inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, made it to the public after years of delay and a long-standing tussle with Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).Confirming the development, ZEE5 released an official statement on social media, reiterating its support for the film, its makers and their vision. The platform also said that it is pursuing legal procedures to make the film available again in India.The film was released directly on ZEE5 instead of theatres, it landed under the title ‘Satluj’ after the CBFC demanded more than 120 cuts before giving the certification.The statement reads, “The response to Satluj since its release has been overwhelming. We are extremely grateful to every viewer who chose to subscribe, watch and support the film. Your love and support has meant a lot to us and to everyone who brought this story.”“At Zee5, we stand firmly with Satluj and the creative vision behind it. We believe that powerful stories have the power to inspire, endure and leave lasting impact. We are committed to delivering stories that are true and meaningful (sic),” it continued.Talking about the cancellation of the film, the platform added, “Given the current situation, Satluj will not be available in India until further notice. We remain committed to explore every possible way through the appropriate process to bring the film to our audience at the earliest opportunity (sic)”.The speech concluded and reaffirmed ZEE5’s commitment to creators and stories told with conviction, creativity and purpose.Sharing the announcement on social media, the advertising agency wrote in a post, “Satluj may have paused. But the conversation hasn’t started yet. Thank you for the amazing love. We hope to see you again soon.”Earlier on Sunday, the former cricketer and Member of Parliament Harbhajan Singh he explained that the film is worth watching.The project has been in contention for years over certification issues. According to reports, the CBFC has planned more than 100 changes, including changing the title and removing references to Punjab and the real life of the protagonist. Director Honey Trehan and the producers insisted that the film was based on scripted events, which led to long-term disagreements with the team and numerous cancellations.The controversy also affected the film’s international tour. It was canceled prematurely at the Toronto International Film Festival amid licensing queues.
