Speaking to News18, Vikram Bhatt has no doubts about Mahesh Bhatt’s future. “No chance! It’s over,” he said. The veteran director declared ‘Kartoos’ (1999) his last film as a director before returning 21 years later to direct ‘Sadak 2’, starring his daughters Alia Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt.Vikram Bhatt gave an insight into what led to the unexpected comeback. “I think, it’s a promise he made to Mukesh Bhatt. He said that he can lead only if someone leads them.” He also said: “I have never spoken to him about this matter, but my opinion is that he took the authority when it was necessary to do so.”
Mahesh Bhatt continues to write and produce
While the director’s chair is behind him, Mahesh Bhatt has remained active as a writer and producer. Over the years, he has written stories for several Vikram Bhatt films, including ‘Kasoor’, ‘Raaz’, ‘Inteha’, ‘Judaa Hoke Bhi’, and ‘Bloody Ishq’.Vikram Bhatt credited his mentor’s ability to make him more versatile. He also said, “He works because he is a very active person. There is nothing else on his mind and he can work 24 hours a day. So he does this but it is not something that improves his life or he needs it to survive. He has been through all that. He does not need anything.”

Their long-time collaboration has produced almost as many horror and thriller films. When asked why he didn’t go for lighter territory, Vikram Bhatt was honest. He said, “Sir, as I call him, is very difficult to do comedy. I don’t think he thinks of comedy. But he has a very good sense of humor. And he has done some good things like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Duplicate, but his reaction is neither funny nor serious.”“Vikram also spoke fondly of Mahesh’s collaborative spirit. He added, “He always supports my thoughts. He doesn’t try to direct my thoughts to his thoughts, which is amazing.”
