NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s much-awaited India debut was a mix of excitement and disappointment. The 15-year-old became the youngest cricketer to play for India in international cricket but also ended up with an unwanted record during the second T20I against England at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday.The left-handed batsman became the first Indian to be dismissed stumped on his T20I debut.

Fearless started as a teenager

Sooryavanshi looked completely unfazed by the occasion. He scored 14 runs from just 10 balls, hitting two sixes in an entertaining cameo.The young man announced himself in smashing style England fast bowler Jofra Archer for a high six over the head of the wicketkeeper. He followed it up with another clean shot on the Josh Tongue ropes.The teenager’s funny shot came to an end in the fifth over.Looking to continue his attacking approach, Sooryavanshi moved away against spinner Will Jacks but was beaten by the flight of the ball. Despite the early dismissal, it was a landmark day for the Bihar batsman.At 15 years and 99 days, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to represent India in international cricket. He broke the long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar made his debut at 16 years and 205 days.
