The former Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir started a new phase of his career after joining Notts Outlaws for the remainder of the T20 Blast 2026 season as a domestic player after acquiring British citizenship.Amir recently received a British passport through his wife Narjis Khan’s British citizenship. As a result, he will no longer count as an overseas player in county cricket, giving Nottinghamshire greater flexibility in squad selection and opening up more opportunities for Amir in English domestic cricket.Nottinghamshire, currently second in Group North after six matches, expect Amir to be available for Friday’s T20 Blast match against Kent as the side look to strengthen their push for the knockout stages.Although Amir has previously represented Derbyshire, Gloucestershire and Essex, this will be his first county stint as a local player. His domestic status means Notts can field their two overseas players – South African all-rounder George Linde and Pakistani bowler Mohammad Ali – alongside him.Speaking after joining the club, Amir said: “I’m really excited to have joined Notts. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this club, and I’m looking forward to it. I have lots and lots of memories at Trent Bridge, and I know that T20 is all about entertaining people, so I’m going to try my best to make sure that the last team played well for this team played well. Well, and I’ll try to help carry that momentum forward throughout the tournament.“Nottinghamshire also confirmed Amir’s status in an official statement, saying that as “a British passport holder, Amir will not be counted as an overseas player for the duration of his stay at Trent Bridge, which includes any potential elimination matches Notts may play”.Amir last represented Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024. During his international career, he was part of Pakistan’s title-winning teams in the 2009 T20 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy.In T20 cricket, Amir has taken 425 wickets in 364 matches at an average of 22.63 and an economy rate of 7.36.
