For nearly two decades, fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Sanjay DuttMunna is Arshad WarsiCircuit. While speculations about the future of ‘Munna Bhai 3’ have surfaced again and again over the years, the filmmaker. Rajkumar Hirani and actor Arshad Warsi has now revealed that the project is very much alive and kicking.According to Hindustan Times, speaking during the promotion of their upcoming film ‘Pritam and Pedro’, the duo revealed that the issue is not a lack of ideas but finding a good story that can fulfill the franchise’s legacy.
Rajkumar Hirani’s search for the right story continues
The journey of the beloved franchise began with ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ in 2003, followed by the blockbuster ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ in 2006. Both films were critically acclaimed and created a loyal audience base, which made the anticipation for the third installment very high.Rajkumar Hirani admitted that creating new ideas for Munna and Circuit was not difficult. The challenge, according to him, is to create a story that is entertaining from start to finish.Explaining the delay, he said, “If you want to see Munna Bhai till then, I can make five films right now. Because I don’t have anything more to say than that.”
Why is Rajkumar Hirani refusing to rush into the sequel?
While he knows that the third installment will bring a lot of excitement at the box office, Hirani insists that commercial success alone will not be the reason for another film in the franchise.“Of course, I want to make one. Anyone in my place would say, ‘Just write any article, it will open up big and make solid money.’ But I don’t want to do that. We made two big films; If I was just paying attention, I would have made four or five versions by now. It needs to match what we already have. This is where I get stuck,” he said. The producer of the film emphasized that maintaining the quality established by the first two films is very important.
Arshad Warsi reveals three existing documents
Contrary to popular belief that the project does not have a screenplay, Arshad Warsi revealed that several versions of the story have already been written.“There are really three very beautiful unfinished texts sitting there. And all three are much better than many texts I’ve heard – I’m not kidding. Each of them has things that grab your attention immediately. The ideas and events are very beautiful,” he shared.According to Warsi, every script has its moments of inspiration and excitement, but everything is still necessary to complete the story. Arshad also explained that the development work has stopped because the writers are looking for a good resolution that ties everything together.“It’s just missing that one little connector, that little piece of the puzzle. Once that fits, we’ll be good to go. Otherwise, somewhere the end is missing, or it doesn’t connect well. In the end, he will get it,” he added. The actor remains confident that Hirani will eventually break the formula and give a proper continuation.Unexpected victory of GandhigiriDuring the interview, Hirani reflected on how some of the franchise’s most famous events became cultural events without deliberate planning.“You don’t sit and write and think, ‘People will remember Jaadu ki Jhappi or Gandhigiri.’ “When you start writing like this, it’s very silly,” he said. The director recalled how the team believed that another dialogue of ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ would be popular among the audience. However, it was Gandhigiri’s idea that unexpectedly caught on across the country and became part of popular culture.“We had a sequence where Lucky Singh is a crooked architect and he has to switch to Gandhigiri. We wrote a line where Munna and Circuit tell him, ‘Whatever you like to do in life, do something different.’ We used this line a few times in the film and thought it would catch on as a catchphrase. To this day, I don’t think anyone remembers that conversation! On the face of it, we thought the word Gandhigiri wouldn’t work, but it turned out to be quite a surprise. You just have to write with your gut and leave it at that,” he recalled.
Arshad’s fondest memory of playing the circuit
One of the lighter moments in the interview came when Arshad Warsi revealed that he doesn’t remember what he did after the project was completed.“I literally forget my work as soon as I finish shooting. Raju knows that for Munna Bhai 2 (‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’), I didn’t know how I did it! He had to show me the tape of the first film and say, ‘Son, look, you did this,’ and then I had to take it myself,” he joked. His candid admission made everyone laugh and gave a glimpse into his simple way of doing things.
Hope remains in the munna and the return of the community
Although ‘Munna Bhai 3’ is yet to start production, Hirani confirmed that talks are still on with Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and writer Abhijat Joshi. The team continues to explore different ideas while looking for the final product that will elevate the film to the heights expected by the audience. Finally on a hopeful note, Hirani assured fans that the beloved characters have not been left behind.“At some point, it’s going to happen,” he said.Meanwhile, the wait is on, but the makers insist that ‘Munna Bhai 3’ is far from over and could reunite one of the most loved actors in Hindi cinema.
