A film producer Siddharth P Malhotra It has been revealed that Meena Kumari’s much-anticipated documentary, titled ‘Kamal Aur Meena’, has been completed, and the premise is unlike anything seen before in an Indian historical film, based on her letters and archives by the famous actress herself.
Meena Kumari’s voice is at the heart of the script
Speaking to Mid-Day, Siddharth P Malhotra revealed that the script was created from an extraordinary archive of correspondence between Meena Kumari and her filmmaker husband Kamal Amrohi. “Fortunately, we have their handwritten love letters and diaries. Therefore, our film is based on their 2000 letters and diary entries. In a way, they will tell us what we should write, in their words,” he said.The film is set to explore the complicated and tragic relationship between Kumari and Amrohi, drawing heavily on their iconic 1972 film ‘Pakeezah’. The drama is produced by famous writers Bhavani Iyer and Kausar Munir.
Casting is underway
With the script locked, the production now focuses on assembling its cast. Malhotra confirmed, “We have finished writing and are gearing up for the casting. We hope the project will go ahead by the end of the year.”Speculations have been rife about who will portray Meena Kumari on screen, and Kiara AdvaniThe name appears repeatedly in the reports. However, the director made it clear that nothing was finalized. “Until it’s closed, it’s not closed [how] business is. He is not the only actor; and the total cost of the item [that is a determinant]” he said.

‘Kamal Aur Meena’ is not the only biopic announced on the legendary actor. Fashion designer-turned-producer Manish Malhotra also announced Meena Kumari’s biopic with Kriti Sanon in the lead. That project was later cancelled.
