Matt Damon changed physically to play Odysseus inside Christopher Nolan‘s ‘The Odyssey’, but despite this, he was also supported by actors in other big pictures.In a new interview, Damon revealed that one of the characters in the game was a woman who posed as a Greek hero when the character faced off against the giants of the Laestrygonians. “When we did the physical thing with the Laestrygonians, there were some interesting people who were seven feet tall, and then they got stupid men who were five feet under,” Damon said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.“My double was a woman, a gymnast who had the biggest hands I’ve ever seen. When she entered the dining tent, it was the first time I met her. I went and hugged her and thanked her for all the work she put in,” added Damon.Regarding the creation of the battle scene, Damon revealed that director Nolan and his team created the classic Laestrygonians using cinematic techniques instead of relying entirely on CGI. According to Damon, the production used ‘forced logic’ to increase the height difference. According to the report, the gymnasts portraying the Laestrygonian giants stood around 7 feet tall, while the gymnasts who played Odysseus’ army were about 5 feet tall.Fans soon took to social media to share their surprise at the photo shoot and more. One said, “Christopher Nolan avoided CGI and used 7ft stuntmen to portray the Laestrygonians in The Odyssey. The main leader, King Antiphates, is portrayed by actor Josh Stewart, while Matt Damon’s stunt double is Devyn Dalton, who is under 5ft.”Another added, “The stark contrast between the actors of the Laestrygonians and the doubles of Odysseus’s crew in THE ODYSSEY, revealing how Christopher Nolan creates giants through the practical dimension.”Based on Homer’s poem, ‘The Odyssey’ follows the story of Odysseus and his long journey home after the Trojan War. The film is produced on an IMAX camera and is currently showing in IMAX theaters.The film stars Matt Damon in the lead role, along with Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and the cast.According to Deadline, ‘Odyssey’ has become the highest box office to date with a $264.1 million opening weekend worldwide. This number is a record for Nolan, whose Dark Knight Rises debuted in 2012 to $249 million worldwide. The film already earned the best Monday this year in the US with $18.67 million. It has already become Nolan’s biggest international opening, beating his previous releases ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ with USD 249 million and ‘The Dark Knight’ with USD 198 million.
