Madonna says biopic with Julia Garner SHELVED due to budget issues; he says 'Maybe he didn't believe me'

Madonna has opened up about the fallout from her much-talked-about biopic, which was set to star Julia Garner. The singer, in a recent interview, revealed that budget constraints killed the project despite years of development.

Madonna on budget matters

The pop icon appeared in an interview with Interview Magazine and revealed details of her video and a list of saved online hits. “I had to make a movie about my life,” Madonna told the magazine, and revealed that “she worked on my project for two years and spent two years at Universal Studios with line producers to budget and cast.”According to the singer, the film required more money than the studio was willing to accept. He said, “We had a disagreement, me and Universal, about the budget because I wanted to – I had an amazing life. I had a lot of life, so I needed a lot of money. You know what I mean?”

Madonna is trying to lower the budget

According to the star, the production house “couldn’t wrap their heads around” the budget needed to make the biopic they were considering. This also led him to look for ways to reduce the cost by finding “a way to make less money in Serbia.”“Maybe they didn’t believe me. One of their first reactions was, ‘We don’t believe you can stay in Serbia for more than four days.’ And I said, ‘Did you read the script?’ My whole life has been survival. I’m not going on vacation there,” added Madonna.

Madonna is transitioning the biopic from film to web

After the adaptation of the film was completed, Madonna said that discussions began to revive the project as a Netflix series. However, remembering the problems that the OTT format created later, he explained, “I was in limbo when it fell, and then Netflix reached out to make a series. That was a whole other long process, because I could not use the script I had with Universal unless I bought it from them for a high price, even though I wrote it.

Madonna on her singing career

The singer revealed that he spent almost a year trying to turn the project into a television drama but abandoned those plans. “That’s how it goes…” He said and continued to add, “You have to meet a lot of writers and find a good showman, and I didn’t find him. This went on for eight or nine months. I was like, ‘Well I have another job because I need to work, I need to create.’ I have to do what I was put on earth to do.’The biopic is set to go live in 2020 and is said to be titled ‘Who’s That Girl’. Madonna was attached to direct and co-write the film, with actress Julia Garner to play the music legend.Although the biopic was intended to be released as a film, it was later announced as a Netflix series, although a few adaptations have surfaced since then.
