AICWA writes to Maharashtra CM, seeks FIR against Sanjay Leela Bhansali
In a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Gupta of AICWA wanted to register an FIR against Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the manufacturing house, and all those found responsible for the worker’s death. According to a report by NDTV, the agency expressed ambivalence about the incident, saying that “details and specifics regarding his situation and the manner in which it happened have not been fully established.“Calling for a “thorough, impartial and high-quality investigation,” the AICWA said the incident has raised serious concerns about workplace safety in the film industry. “If safety measures had been implemented and followed, this tragic incident could have been avoided,” the letter said.Yadav is survived by his wife and two young daughters. AICWA is demanding compensation of Rs 1 crore for the family, as well as employment or financial assistance to the widow and long-term financial assistance for the future security of her daughters.The organization has also urged the Maharashtra government to suspend all shooting activities at the site until the security assessment is completed and security policies are confirmed by the authorities.
What happened on the set of ‘Love and War’?
Carpenter Chandradhari Singh Yadav, 42, reportedly died on June 17 during the filming of Love and War at Royal Pump Studio near Film City in Mumbai. While the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had earlier claimed that Yadav had died of electrocution, AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta has now disputed the account. According to the report, Mr. Gupta said the worker died when a part of the building or roof collapsed and said several other workers were injured in the incident.

Mr. Gupta also referred to past incidents related to Bhansali’s productions, saying that the same characters were killed in the production of Devdas and Padmaavat. AICWA also stated that film crews are often made to work in unsafe environments and that inadequate safety precautions increase the risk of accidents.The manufacturing facility must provide a response to AICWA’s requirements.
