According to an announcement from Tamil Nadu distributor Sakthi Film Factory, ‘Karuppu’ grossed Rs 191 crore in the state, making it one of the highest grossing Tamil films in the region. The film showed remarkable consistency throughout its run, collecting Rs 60 crore in its first three days, Rs 100 crore in its opening week, Rs 150 crore in just 13 days, and Rs 175 crore by the 20th day. It has now added Rs 16 crore to close its Tamil Nadu theater business at Rs 191 crore, failing to reach the 200 crore mark, which would have been the first for a Suriya film.
Strong word of mouth propelled the film into action
Released on May 15, ‘Karuppu’ has been well received by the family audience and fans, making it a long run in the theatres. However, even though it was released on the OTT platform on June 12, ‘Karuppu’ attracted audiences in some theatres. It was the result of positive reviews, repeat viewings, and top weekend grosses.
