Months after “Jana Nayagan” became the center of one of Tamil cinema’s biggest midwifery scandals, producer Pradeep E Ragav has opened up about his disappointment. The editor said the leak is still going on despite arrests by the authorities. His comments came after the film released in theaters after months of delays due to licensing issues and the spread of its fake version on the Internet.
Pradeep E Ragav says the ‘Jana Nayagan’ leak continues to haunt him
In an interview with Harish Ram, Pradeep E Ragav revealed the damage caused by the leak and the efforts of hundreds of people involved in the film. “I still haven’t heard about this issue. There are ants, they will even kill animals. I see this issue as it is. Those who jumped are in prison and there is no law to find and punish people who saw them through piracy. If it were their job, they would not have done this. More than money, thousands of people were affected,” he said. The editor’s statement comes after the film was released on the Internet on April 9, a few months before its release. According to the investigation, the producers of the film took action in the cases of the people who initiated the sharing. A major investigation, where the authorities pursued the violation of a private assistant editor who allegedly copied the video from the editing site and distributed it through the pirate network. The Madras High Court later issued an interim injunction ordering internet service providers and cable operators not to distribute the uncertified film. Pradeep E Ragav was also targeted by the Southern India Film Editors Association for supporting non-members, although the association clarified that he was not responsible for the leak. After an apology, he was allowed to continue his professional work.

Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ stars Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, PriamGautham Vasudev Menon, and Narain in the lead roles. The movie has music by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan. Set for an early release, the film hit theaters on July 23 after overcoming certification hurdles and a major backlash against piracy, making it one of the most talked about Tamil releases of the year.
