England announce ODI squad for India series; James Coles, Josh Tongue earn primary call-ups

NEW DELHI: England on Friday announced a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series against India later this month, with uncapped all-rounder James Coles and fast bowler Josh Tongue earning their first call-ups.India and England are currently playing a five-match T20I series before locking horns in three ODIs on July 14, 16 and 19 in Birmingham, Cardiff and Lord’s, respectively.

James Coles, Josh Tongue earn first ODI call-ups

The biggest talking points in the England squad are the inclusions of Coles and Tongue, who are set to make their ODI debuts.The selectors have also included seamers Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood as England prepare to face a strong Indian side.

Jofra Archer come back

Fast bowler Jofra Archer has also been named in the squad and will return to ODI cricket for the first time since November 2025.His return will boost England’s pace attack ahead of the three-match series.

India to field a strong team

India is expected to field an almost full strength squad for the ODI series.Former captain Rohit Sharma and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah are set to see, while Virat KohliParticipation will depend on their physical fitness.
