Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam reached the men’s 55kg quarter-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after defeating Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman by a 5-0 unanimous decision on Sunday. I feel great winning against Pakistan. I can do even better in the quarterfinals and secure a Gold for India.”His victory coincided with 27 Kargil Vijay Diwas, when India honored the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. Jadumani remained in control throughout the contest against Rehman, earning all five judges’ votes to seal a comfortable victory.The Manipuri boxer had already impressed in the first round with another 5-0 win over Scotland’s Aaron Cullen. His latest victory takes him into the last eight, where he will fight for a place in the semi-finals on Tuesday. A win in the quarter-finals will also guarantee them at least a bronze medal, as the two losing semi-finalists in Commonwealth Games boxing receive bronze.Jadumani, who won silver in the 50kg category at last year’s World Boxing Cup Final before moving to the 55kg division, looked in excellent form with back-to-back unanimous wins. India also had success in other events on Sunday, with Mirabai Chanu winning their third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold in weightlifting, while Chanambam Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi claimed silver medals, adding to the country’s strong medal tally in Glasgow.
