Amidst all these speculations, director Chidambaram revealed that his next project will be a Hindi film.The producer of the film, popularly known as ‘Jan. E. Man’, ‘Manjummel Boys’ and the recently released ‘Balan’, said in a recent interview that the film is in development and is expected to start production next year.The director shared the update in an interview with Variety. He also explained that the project requires a lot of preparation, especially since it is being put in Hindi. As a result, development work has taken longer than usual.
The casting process is already underway
Speaking about the project, Chidambaram revealed that the preparations are going well. He said that he has been traveling to Mumbai regularly for the past two years as the work continues. According to the producer of the film, the casting is in progress and it is one of the main reasons for the delay.Sharing the update, he said, “I am doing a Hindi film. It is being prepared, and I think it may go down by the end of next year. The shooting is underway, and I have been coming to Mumbai every month for the past two years, but because it is a Hindi film, it is taking time. At this time, I thought I should do a Malayalam film.”While waiting for the Hindi project to be finalized, Chidambaram completed work on ‘Balan’.
Why Hindi film is important to him
The filmmaker also spoke about his long-held desire to direct a Hindi film. He also explained that the language gives filmmakers a chance to reach people across the country and provide more money and exposure.Explaining his perspective, Chidambaram said, “It’s always a dream for South directors to make a Hindi film, because it’s a national film, and we have a big audience, a big budget and a big voice.”

Chidambaram also shared his thoughts on the future of cinema halls. Despite the rapid growth of OTT platforms and changes in viewing habits, he believes that audiences will continue to embrace sports experiences.Sharing his thoughts, he said, “I think people are going to theatres. When COVID-19 hit, we thought that theaters are over, but it’s not true. Look at the collection of all the films of ‘Dhurandhar’ and other films like ‘Jailer.’ The tradition of watching the whole thing together never goes away. When television came, we thought it was the end of movies and theater. Then, when cable TV came along, we thought that would be the end of the theater. The same thing happened when OTT came along, and an epidemic followed. All movie viewing events will be available. A movie or a drama, I think the scene will change. Maybe it will be 3D or holographic or VR, but the visuals together, I think are left. “
‘Balan’ continues his regular office
Chidambaram’s latest Malayalam film ‘Balan’ continues to perform steadily at the box office.According to Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 45 lakhs (Indian net) on Day 12. The film’s collection in India has reached Rs 16.43 crore, while its worldwide collection is now around Rs 30.24 crore.
