A Brazilian woman accused of stalking BTS member Jungkook has been given a suspended sentence by a South Korean court and may now be deported.The woman, who has not been identified, was sentenced by a district court in Seoul to one year in prison, suspended for two years, after repeatedly visiting the K-pop star’s home despite several warnings from authorities. According to court documents, the woman started visiting Jungkook’s home since December last year, saying that her actions were motivated by ‘love for the singer’.
Stalker rings Jungkook’s doorbell 133 times
According to a BBC report, prosecutors said they repeatedly visited Jungkook’s home in Seoul, and tried to leave letters and photos there, ignoring police orders. The report also stated that one of the incidents saw her crying at the singer’s door 133 times.The court said the woman showed “extreme emotion.”
Stalker leaves letters at Junkook’s house
Authorities say the woman first went to Jungkook’s house on December 7, where she wandered around outside the house, throwing things on the wall and pushing letters on the doors. Despite being warned, he returned a few days later and knocked on the door.On December 13, he was arrested after following a food delivery man through a side door in an attempt to enter the building. He was released the next day with a warning not to return to the house.
The stalker ignores the restraining order
However, prosecutors said they ignored the warnings and continued to visit the area. According to the report, this prompted the police to issue an emergency restraining order, prohibiting him from coming within 100 meters of Jungkook’s house.Even then, he reportedly continued to visit the site, about 22 times in total.In handing down the sentence, the judge noted that the defendant’s risk of wrongdoing was considered “unnecessary,” which led to a prison sentence. In addition to the sentence, the woman is expected to be deported from South Korea unless she appeals the decision.The verdict comes a year after another shocking incident involving a hacker made waves online. In June last year, a Chinese woman in her 30s was arrested in Seoul after she tried to break into Jungkook’s house just hours after he finished his military service.
