A difficult relationship between Arya Babbar and Prateik’s brother Smita Patil came into the limelight after a video of Arya’s comedy went viral on the internet.In the video, Arya refers to her genitals as “chota bhai” (her younger brother) while discussing depression. Then he laughs, “And by chota bhai, I don’t mean Prateik Babbar.”As the audience laughs, Arya immediately corrects herself and says, “Prateik Smita Patil,” which elicited a standing ovation.” Then he said again, “Kya ho raha hai Smita maa.”The actor later shared the video on social media with the caption, “No names have been changed in the making of this comedy,” apparently referring to Prateik’s decision to take his late mother Smita Patil’s name.
‘I noticed you changed your name’
When explaining the story, Arya insisted that there was no intention to insult her brother.“I was talking about chota bhai in terms of depression, and at that time, I just said that chota bhai does not mean Prateik Babbar. As soon as I said it, I realized that he has changed his name and is very interested in this thing that he does not want to be called Prateik Babbar. So, I just corrected myself,” Arya explained in an interview with Hindustan Times.He added, “The world knows that I will not take the name Smita Maa without adding maa, so I said this. To me, it was not a joke. I was just telling the truth, the audience found the joke there.”
‘Wo phone answer kar le, main baat kar lunga’
When asked if she would like to mend fences with Prateik, Arya said that she remains open to discussions.“Wo phone answer kar le, main baat kar lunga. Usne ye medium choose kiya hai ki main apni banja se seedhe nahin, media ke through baat karunga, to hamare paas bhi koi option nahin bachta,” he said. Arya also questioned the idea that her side of the family is often misrepresented.“What I don’t like is that Babbar sahab’s first family can’t be bad people. Why are you being treated badly and we are being called sinners. We don’t say anything to you, we welcome you and respect you, so why are we bad?” he asked.
