Anupam Kher took a nostalgic trip down memory lane by sharing photos from his first shoot when he arrived in Mumbai in 1981. The veteran photographer accompanied the black and white photos with emotional insights, difficult memories, insecurities and unwavering determination that made his journey in the film industry. Posting some throwback pictures on Instagram, Kher revealed that he was just 25 years old when he arrived in Mumbai from Shimla with nothing but a dream and confidence in his abilities.He wrote: “These are the first pictures I took when I arrived in Mumbai in 1981. I was 25 years old. A young man from Shimla has a suitcase full of dreams and a heart full of faith.

Anupam Kher on fighting self-doubt with courage

The actor reflected on how Mumbai felt in those early days. He admitted that his early haircut often made him wonder if people would notice his looks before they noticed his talent. However, he was inspired by the training he received at the National School of Drama and his determination to succeed.Sharing his thoughts, Kher said, “The city was so big. It would make you feel like a drop in a big ocean. Every face looked so confident, every road seemed to move faster than my dreams. There were days when my quick haircut bothered me. I wondered if people would see my hair before they saw my art. But then I reminded myself of one thing… I knew my art.He also said: “The National School of Drama gave me confidence. Life had given me hunger.”

Anupam Kher’s message about perseverance

Kher also answered the question he has been asked often throughout his career if he believes he will succeed. According to the actor, certainty was not part of his journey, but giving up was not an option either.He wrote: “People often ask me, ‘Did you know you could do it? No. I didn’t know. But I knew I would never stop trying.'”Encouraging dreamers to remain committed to their goals, he added: “Dreams are strange. If you really believe in your dreams, your dreams will gradually start believing in you.”Ending on a heartfelt note, the actor also reflected on the young man in the photo, saying that he no longer sees someone struggling but someone who has kept his dreams alive despite all the odds. Kher concluded his post with the words, “When I look at these pictures today, I don’t see a tough actor. I see a guy who refuses to talk about his dreams. And to that 25-year-old boy, I have only one thing to say… ‘Thank you for not giving up.‘”
