Amitabh Bachchan called The House of Abhinandan Lodha founder and chairman Abhinandan Lodha around 3 o’clock in the morning to inquire about buying land in Ayodhya and transferred Rs 15 crore the next day after learning the price, a businessman has revealed.Speaking at the Hindustan Times India Next Real Estate Summit 2026, Lodha recalled that he was in Australia in 2023 when he saw several missed calls and a message from a Bollywood star.“There were several missed calls, followed by a message that said, ‘This is Amitabh Bachchan, please call back if necessary.’ I stood up and called him again,” said Lodha.Recalling their conversation, Lodha said Bachchan told him, “Abhinandan ji, main UP se hoon aur mujhe Ayodhya ji mein land leni hai (I am a native of Uttar Pradesh and I want to buy land in the holy city of Ayodhya).“I told him, we will do it for you,” he added.Lodha said that Bachchan first asked about the price of the property.“I said, ‘How can I talk to you about the prices?’ He said he wanted to buy 15,000 sq ft and I told him maybe Rs 15 crore, and the next day he sent me Rs 15 crore,” recalled Lodha.

Amitabh Bachchan expanded his investment in Ayodhya

Bachchan has gradually expanded his property portfolio in Ayodhya over the past few years.In March 2026, he bought 2.67 acres of land worth Rs 35 crore from Abhinandan Lodha House. According to the company, it recorded its third investment in Ayodhya and the fourth planned acquisition by HoABL. The site is close to the company’s 75-acre project, The Sarayu.Commenting on the financial situation at the time, Lodha said, “Bachchan’s investments show that real estate is like a diversified asset that retains value over time.”“At HoABL, we see land not just as an asset but as a heritage. In Ayodhya, this heritage has a deep meaning, a virasat where faith and heritage come together. With the help of sustainable development of infrastructure and public investment, Ayodhya is emerging as a place suitable for long-term ownership and enduring value creation,” he said.Before this, in May 2025, Bachchan bought a 25,000 sq ft property adjacent to The Sarayu for around Rs 40 crore. In 2024, he bought a 10,000 sq ft plot in HoABL’s development, The Sarayu, for Rs 14.5 crore.
