Well known Adil Husseinwho was born and raised AssamHe has expressed his great anger and frustration due to the floods that are currently destroying his homeland. Having witnessed the annual problem since childhood, the ‘English Vinglish’ actor has not stopped expressing his dismay, revealing that his family members are among the victims this year. His comments also bring attention to the Assam flood crisis and the lack of long-term solutions despite decades of devastation.
Adil Hussain on decades of unrelenting flooding
Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, “I have been witnessing floods every year since I was a child and this year is the worst. I feel very sad, angry, sad and depressed because floods are a recurring problem and the government authorities since I grew up in Assam have not been able to solve the problem. Unplanned towns have grown, swamps have been filled with factories and trees have been cut down. There is no research on how to solve this problem so that the people in the areas affected by the floods should be taken care of by reducing their problems.” He added, “My sister’s daughters, nephews and their husbands have flooded houses in Upper Assam’s Sivasagar. I have been trying to find a way to help them and the situation is difficult.” She also said that she is in a relationship with singer Papon, who has also been stepping in to help those affected by the crisis.
Adil Hussain wants a proper flood control plan
According to Hussain, what is urgently needed is a better flood control system. “Indian scientists are sending satellites to the moon and many countries have solved the problem of flooding. The Netherlands has reclaimed land from the sea. I can’t understand how government after government can’t get committee experts—engineers, landscape planners, city planners—to come together and solve the problem.” He has also actively used social media to raise awareness of the problem and has been appealing to people to take action and help in Assam.
