Lingusamy reveals why Vijay resigned
Speaking to Cinema Vikatan, Lingusamy said that Vijay was initially approached for “Run,” but the project did not go ahead after discussions with the actor’s father, SA Chandrasekhar. “SAC sir heard the story and felt that it is a love story mixed with action. After Thamizhan, he believed that Vijay’s image will grow and felt that chasing the heroine throughout the film would not suit him. So the project was not done, although later we worked together to produce the song ‘Ghilli’,” recalled Lingusamy. He added that Vijay also listened to ‘Sandakozhi’ with great interest before deciding against it.
Vijay praised ‘Sandakozhi’ after seeing its success
Sharing another memorable experience, Lingusamy revealed that Vijay was impressed with the first half of ‘Sandakozhi,’ especially the long sequences, but changed his mind after hearing his father’s character and the story as a whole. “After explaining the first part, Vijay was very happy. But when I explained the father’s character, he told me, ‘Anna, venam na.’ He felt that the film was not suitable for him,” said the director. However, after the film became a blockbuster, Vijay met Lingusamy at the success celebrations. “‘Anna, pichitinga na… padam super-ah irundhuchu,’ (Brother, are you crazy? The film was a hit! ) he told me. I replied, ‘You didn’t listen to the whole second part.’ Vijay then smiled and said, ‘Someone like Vishal should have entered the industry. The film was good for him,” recalls Lingusamy.

Lingusamy also appreciated Vijay’s determination in choosing scripts that suit his work. According to the filmmaker, Vijay always had a clear understanding of the films he wanted to make. He revealed that the actor also heard “Vettai” but decided against it after listening to the last part of the story. Looking back, Lingusamy said that Vijay remained committed to commercial entertainers throughout his career, a path that eventually helped him become one of the most popular actors in Tamil cinema.
