Ram Gopal Varma reacts to Diljit Dosanjh's 'Satluj' being removed from OTT, says the film is a deep wound: 'Any film that makes the powerful uncomfortable has done its job'

A film producer Ram Gopal Varma he offered his help Diljit Dosanjh‘s ‘Satluj’, which was earlier titled ‘Punjab’95’, after the film was pulled from the OTT platform just two days after its OTT premiere. The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and was released on the platform on July 3 after years of delay.Acting on the film, Ram Gopal Varma described ‘Satluj’ as a bold and important piece of cinema. He urged the authorities not to suppress the film, saying it fearlessly revisits one of the darkest chapters in Indian history without relying on sensationalism. He wrote, “I just saw SATLUJ and it’s not a movie, but a deep wound that will never heal. It creates sludge in one of the darkest chapters of our history. This is cinema used as a struggle, where @diljitdosanjh acts with calm fury without a chest to shoot a patch.. His only tools are the ledger and conscience. @rampalarjun is adding several layers of bad behavior to organizations that feel honest.” He also praised director Honey Trehan’s restrained storytelling, saying the film is rooted in truth rather than exaggeration. “Director @honeytrehan instead of being afraid and afraid broadcasts the film like a detective who investigates slowly through official files, burning documents, and silent dialogue. This restriction makes the brutality of the story even more difficult because it explodes with the power of truth and not exploitation. The main point of the film is about how a democracy eats its citizens and then tries to erase the evidence without any presentation and it’s not a good idea,” he added.Talking about the controversy surrounding the removal of the film from the OTT platform, Varma said that the situation only shows the importance of ‘Satluj’. He added that talent serves its purpose when it competes with incumbents.“The various stories surrounding his shows and broadcasts prove that any art that makes powerful people uncomfortable has done its job, and that is the true goal of true art, which SATLUJ is. It is very brave to make important films because it disturbs, educates, and slows down. In times when the great river chases the shows and popcorn cinema, SUTLEJ shoots that remind me of the real truth and honesty. SATLUJ is a film that must be seen, shown, discussed, debated and not MEET like the victims of this movie,” he wrote. At the end of his career, the actor impressed the authorities so much that they did not ban the film. “My plea to all powers is, please don’t do to SATLUJ what was done to JASWANT SINGH KALRA. THE TRUTH IS ONLY WHEN THEY TRY TO HIDE IT. – AYN RAND.”Directed by Honey Trehan, ‘Satluj’ premiered on ZEE5 on July 3 after almost four years of delays and long hurdles that marred its theatrical release. However, the film was pulled from the platform within two days of its release.
