Back in 2024, Arshad Warsi found himself at the center of a major social media controversy after he made a comment Prabhas‘ look in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, which sent the Telugu superstar’s fans into a frenzy. In his speech, Arshad also said that Prabhas resembles a ‘joke’ It’s Ashwin the film and decided that it should be like a style Mel Gibson on the contrary. Nani later responded that the comment might have made Arshad “more popular” in his career, a statement that drew criticism from a section of Hindi film audiences.
Arshad Warsi on jokes and best friends only
Now, in an interview with News18, Arshad shares that he keeps his unfiltered side to his close friends, behind closed doors. “I only joke with my friends. To be honest, I don’t joke with anyone. If I have to joke, I do it with people I know well and friends because I know what to say and how much to say. If I don’t know someone, I won’t say anything in front of them because I won’t have an opinion on them. It’s as simple as that,” he said.
Arshad Warsi why people should lighten up
But Arshad also said that in today’s world, where social media monitors everything, people should learn to laugh at jokes. “As humans, we all need to be relieved,” he says. He also feels that this is true for movies. He recalls the ‘hakka noodle’ joke from Munna Bhai MBBS and says that although it may be suppressed here, it is not really ‘offensive’. There is nothing wrong with that. People can be very confusing these days but it’s not annoying. We call the boys ‘baal ki dukaan’ and this is no longer offensive,” he said. For those who don’t know, in ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, Arshad meets a Chinese foreigner and jokingly calls him ‘hakka noodle’. At the same time, Arshad says that he strongly believes in ‘restraint’. “You have to practice. I, personally, don’t like Pakistani jokes, because they are derogatory. Pakistani jokes are always insulting – name-calling and all. Many people like it but I personally don’t like it. I’m not a big fan of sex comics either and that’s my choice. People like it. Everyone has their own choice but it’s the analysis I do,” he says.
Arshad Warsi on being driven by faceless people
Earlier, in an interview with the same publication after confronting his words on Prabhas, Arshad said, “Having opinions is good but these are useless people. They hide and give comments because they have nothing better to do. It gives them a little confidence that I abused the singer. Their comments are random, useless and senseless which can’t be difficult. Anything can be inappropriate. You and I might be having a casual conversation over a cup of tea and someone might get upset over the cup. I don’t know what to do about this!”
