Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has shared some major updates about his upcoming film ‘Varanasi’. The director, who is currently shooting for his Rs 1,400 crore target film, took a break from production to attend the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where he shared schedule updates and more.

Rajamouli Confirms the ‘Varanasi’ event has been completed

Speaking to Variety, Rajamouli confirmed that the entire IMAX blockbuster has been shot now and shared that the film is progressing slowly. Sharing the updates of the film, he shared, “What I can say is that we have completed the main part of the shooting, all the necessary major events for the presentation of the events have taken place. We are (now) doing small, coordinated events that are closely related to the hope, by September, maybe a little bit in October, we should finish the shooting.

Rajamouli also explained that the decision to shoot the film Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Choprabecause IMAX has not changed its creative vision. He said: “From the beginning, we knew that the sequence that was started would be well justified. [the] IMAX version – we didn’t change anything for the sake of the scene. “The director had earlier revealed that the main scenes, which stop at the 20-minute Ramayana war scene, required a larger format to include the level of authenticity and the amount of movement and storytelling. So, the team decided to go ahead and shoot the film in IMAX.

‘Varanasi’ release date

The upcoming film is slated to release in April 2027. According to reports, the film, whose budget has crossed 1,000 crore, is said to be one of the most expensive films ever made in India.Rajamouli’s previous films, including RRR and Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion blockbusters, have been widely praised for pushing the growth and ambition of Indian cinema.
