‘Garam Masala’ (2005) Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Paresh Rawal, became a commercial hit and still enjoys a strong fan following today. Akshay, who is known for his acting chops, has teamed up with John, who has done big roles before this film. Akshay had earlier revealed in an interview that John was nervous during the first shooting days and was on the verge of quitting the project.
John Abraham asked Priyadarshan to drop him in the movie
In a podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, he shared, “It was his first or second day. He was doing a comedy and it’s very difficult to do a comedy in front of Priyadarshan because of the way he shoots. John was sweating profusely. He told me that he couldn’t do the film. He even went to Priyadarshan and asked, ‘Can you drop me in the film so I can do it?’ Priyan asks what happened, he replies that it is speed, everything is fast, there is no time to rest.“
John Abraham was ready to return his money and quit the film
At one point, John was ready to return his money and quit the film, but things changed when filmmaker Priyadarshan stepped in, encouraged him, and encouraged him to work freely. “And actually he couldn’t do it. Then, Priyan took him to his room, calmed him down and said that he can do it on his terms. Otherwise, he was ready to return the money and leave the film, he couldn’t do it. One can’t do anything too fast, it was confusing. You can’t shoot four pictures today and expect to shoot the climax the next day,” recalled Akshay.
Priyadarshan denies rumors of cutting John Abraham’s pictures
Rumors were also rife in the past that Akshay had dropped John’s scenes in the film. Putting these rumors to rest during an interview with Rediff in 2005, filmmaker Priyadarshan said, “Am I a fool to let one of my actors make my film? They may be the opinions of other notable people, not mine. I’ve been around too long to let actors tell me. Akshay has not shown the least bit of desire to take over John’s role. In fact, I have been in contact with John. Not even once did he show any complaint towards Akshay. So who is spreading these rumours?”
John Abraham and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Garam Masala’ also starred Paresh Rawal
