India’s Harjinder Kaur continued the country’s impressive run in weightlifting by winning the silver medal in the women’s 69kg event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Tuesday. The 28-year-old produced a composed performance, finishing with a combined total of 227kg after lifting 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk.Harjinder opened the clean and jerk with a successful 120kg lift before raising the bar to 123kg on his second attempt. He executed the lift confidently to set a new Commonwealth Games record in the event. The Indian weightlifter finished his campaign in style, successfully lifting 126kg in his last attempt, bettering his own tally and finishing with a total of 227kg.
Simoneau dominates to win the gold
Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau proved too strong for the field, claiming the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record total of 240kg. Simoneau lifted 108 kg in the snatch and 132 kg in the clean and jerk, setting Games records in both lifts and in the overall total.Australia’s Nya Phebe Hayman settled for the bronze medal with a total of 218kg (97kg deadlift + 121kg clean and jerk), nine kilograms behind Harjinder.
Weightlifting continues to shine for India
Weightlifting has once again emerged as one of India’s most successful disciplines at CWG 2026, tallying seven medals so far. India’s weightlifting medal winners are:
