In an interview with India Today, the ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ actor opened up about how discussions about female actors continue to fixate on their weight instead of their talent.“Yes, and I think this is still happening because people are still showing that. Society still believes, and still sees my weight first before I start my work. So jab tak woh hota rahega, tab tak main yeh kaam karti rahungi (as long as this continues to happen, I will continue to do this work) to prove that it is wrong,” said Anjali.Anjali believes that the industry needs to do more to create positive roles for women who don’t conform to the usual mold.“There is a long way to write good roles for women. This is what I am trying to do. When many people see me, their minds will open. They will begin to believe that they can write something good for this artist, because of this work – something that uses his skills and not his body,” said the artist of ‘Bell Bottom’.Signing ‘Dhamaal 4’ itself, he admitted that he came with an emotional weight because of the story of the film, “It’s a big mess because it’s a big responsibility if you take on something so difficult, something that you stand for all the time.He added: “But then I thought this is still happening in public, and we’re just showing people what’s real. And if they are offended by this, then they are doing this too. “The actor also said that judging based on public appearance goes beyond weight.“It’s not just about fat shaming. People shame others because they’re thin, because of their skin, because they don’t have hair, how they look, what they wear, what they wear – everything.Considering women in most Hindi films, Anjali has seen a slow but real change.“Things are slowly changing. Earlier, characters like Miss Mimi were only shown eating burgers, or Sweetu was reduced to a double chocolate frappuccino and muffins. There was no standing for those characters. But with Sweetu, things started to change. Then came Gayathri in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, who stood for herself.”He added: “Women today have an organization. There is a group that stands behind them. They have been given a place, and they have that place. It is a slow process because there are many people in this country and the world, but the change will come to everyone in the end.”
