Celina Jaitley has spoken candidly about one of the most difficult moments of her divorce battle with husband Peter Haag. He explained the day the divorce papers arrived, and revealed that because they were written in German, his twin sons were the ones who had to read the document aloud to him. She said she was later told to find a job in Austria so she could see her children.

Speaking to India Today, Celina shared that the divorce papers came on what was supposed to be a day of celebration, her 15th wedding anniversary. She recalled that her husband accompanied her to the post office to collect the documents but refused to translate them for her, even though the announcement was in German, a language she was not familiar with. He said, “I thought it was a letter from the town or that it was related to my stay.” He dropped me down the hill where our house was, and I went up again. My twins were at home doing homework. I asked them, ‘Beta, can you read this for me please? It is very high German. I won’t spend half an hour translating it.’ The twins had to read that horrible divorce document that contained all kinds of accusations against me. I was divorced because I was not enough for my husband’s needs and because of the breakdown of our marriage. I thought it was a joke.

Celina also said that the judge encouraged the couple to separate amicably, and she quickly responded by sending a request for an amicable settlement to her husband’s lawyers. He said, “I said I don’t want anything. I just want my wealth to be returned with the money I invested in it, and I want us to continue saving together.” I went to my husband to talk to him after his lawyer said that I would not be able to return to Mumbai after the divorce, and he said, ‘Get a job if you want to have children.‘ I said, ‘What kind of work will I do?’ And he said to me, ‘I will get you a job as a cleaner in a supermarket. We don’t despise work here like you do in India.’

Celina tied the knot with Peter Haag in 2010. The couple share three children, having lost one of their twins to a heart attack in 2017. In November 2025, Celina sued Peter under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, alleging that she had endured domestic violence.

Reports indicate that Mumbai Police filed an FIR against Peter based on Celina’s complaint. She also moved under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, seeking protection and compensation. According to the reports, he has spoken disparagingly of them through interviews and on social media amid an ongoing divorce and custody battle. The family denied all accusations of abuse, harassment and threats, denied that their three children were brought up repeatedly in public, and asked for the controversial content to be removed and a public apology, warning of civil and criminal charges if their wishes are not met.
