India’s young arm spinner Sree Charani has become the world’s number one bowler in the women’s T20Is after a superb run in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup. The 21-year-old climbed to the top of the ICC rankings after taking 10 wickets in just three matches, making her the tournament’s top wicket-taker so far.Charani’s rise has been one of the biggest achievements of the World Cup. Having made his international debut just over a year ago, he has quickly established himself as a key member of India’s bowling attack. His recent performances against the Netherlands and South Africa helped him overtake English spinner Linsey Smith at the top of the rankings.The Indian spinner’s biggest contributions have come in back-to-back matches. She took four wickets against the Netherlands in Leeds before following it up with a three-wicket haul against South Africa in Manchester. Those match-winning performances earned her enough ranking points to become the highest-ranked bowler in women’s T20I cricket.While Charani moved to No. 1, England’s Charlie Dean climbed to the second spot after taking five wickets in his first three World Cup matches. Former bowler Sophie Ecclestone also made progress, moving up to fourth position.The batting rankings were largely unchanged at the top, with Australia’s Georgia Voll holding onto the top spot. Beth Mooney remained second, while India’s Shafali Verma moved to sixth and captain Harmanpreet Kaur entered the top 10.In everyone’s ranking, the West Indies captain Hayley Matthews she continues to lead the table ahead of New Zealand’s Melie Kerr. Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu managed to finish third, while Pakistan captain Fatima Sana and Ireland’s Orla Prendergast also scored. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp also had a strong week, climbing to ninth place after her impressive performance against India.
