GSET 2026: The Gujarat Nodal Institution, Maharaja University of Baroda, Vadodara has released the details notification for the Gujarat State Eligibility Test (GSET) 2026. The state level examination is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for Assistant Professorship in various universities and colleges across the state of Gujarat.According to the notification, GSET 2026 will conduct examinations in 36 subjects at 12 examination centers across the state. The exam is scheduled to be held on November 29, 2026. Candidates seeking qualifications for teaching positions in higher education institutions can submit their applications through the GSET official portal within the stipulated registration period.Subject and examination detailsThe exam covers 36 postgraduate subjects, and candidates need to choose subjects corresponding to their graduation major. Subjects include Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Hindi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, History, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, English, Education, Law, Commerce, Management, Computer Science, Earth Science, Geography, Social Work, Hindu Studies, Music, Yoga, Statistics and other subjects listed in the information bulletin.Depending on the subject, the question paper will be available in English, Gujarati, Sanskrit, Hindi or bilingual format. Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Life Sciences will be conducted in English, while Gujarati and Sanskrit papers will be available in their respective languages.Applicant qualification requirementsCandidates must have obtained at least 55% marks (without rounding) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination from a UGC recognized university or institution. Applicants belonging to SEBC (non-cream tier), SC, ST, PwD and third gender categories must secure at least 50% marks.Those pursuing a master’s degree or waiting for final results can apply on a provisional basis. Such candidates must complete the degree with stipulated percentage within two years of declaration of GSET results. The notice clarified that there is no upper age limit for applicants.Fee structure and selection processThe application fee for general, general EWS and SEBC (non-creamy layer) candidates has been fixed at Rs 900 plus bank charges. SC, ST and third gender applicants need to pay Rs 700 plus bank charges, while the fee for disabled candidates is Rs 100 plus bank charges. Payment must be made online via debit card, credit card or online banking.GSET 2026 will consist of two objective-type papers conducted on the same day. Paper I is worth 100 points and consists of 50 questions, assessing teaching and research skills, reasoning, understanding and general awareness. Paper II carries 200 marks and contains 100 questions from the subjects chosen by the candidates. The exam does not include negative marking.
