‘Jana Nayagan’ producer says Vijay Popularity and audience connection launched the film
Speaking to Galatta Plus, K. Venkat Narayana termed Jana Nayagan’s release journey as “difficult”. “Making this film was an easy process. We went through a lot of problems for reasons that we don’t even know today. But we have put this behind us. After receiving the certificate, our goal was to bring everyone involved, from exhibitors to distributors. Internationally, there were many popular releases, but we wanted a day where the audience could enjoy and celebrate, especially since this is Vijay’s last film,” he said.Reflecting on the film, he added, “For what has passed, especially because of the censor’s delay and piracy, the film has been doing well. If it had been released during the Pongal holidays or after the elections, during the summer holidays, the results would have been very different. However, the reception we have been getting has been amazing.” He also mentioned Vijay’s popularity, saying, “Vijay’s popularity, his magic, and the connection he has with the audience has been instrumental in bringing the show to life.”“
Censor delay and piracy fail to stop ‘Jana Nayagan’ box office run
The producer’s comments are similar to what director H. Vinoth had said earlier about the difficult release of the film. Vinoth expressed disappointment that the film received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC, believing that a U/A rating would have helped the film reach a wider audience. “Jana Nayagan” was originally slated for a Pongal release but hit the theaters on July 23 after a six-month delay related to certification. Ahead of its release, the makers also faced a major setback when the entire film was leaked online months before its release. Despite these obstacles, the drama crossed Rs 200 crore worldwide in just four days and continues to enjoy a strong run at the box office.
