After months of waiting, the cart of Nitesh Tiwari‘s ‘Ramayana: Part 1’ has been revealed. The fictional epic has received mixed responses online. Although many viewers have appreciated its size and beauty, some have complained about other aspects of the film, and Ranbir KapoorCasting as Lord Rama seems to be one of the biggest talking points.A section of social media users believe that the actor is not fit for the role, leading to a lot of discussion after the release of the trailer.Ranbir recently responded to the criticism while promoting ‘Ramayana’ at San Diego Comic-Con along with director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra and co-star Yash. Speaking to Review Nation, the actor admitted that his reaction to the role was self-doubt, as he doubted whether he was qualified to portray such a noble character.“The first question that came to my mind was, am I the right person? Am I the right person and why am I being given this role not to play Lord Rama but to represent him? But soon you understand the value, the responsibility and the honorable purpose of the filmmakers to present this story, which has been important for 4,000 years. It is deeply rooted in our unconscious consciousness. So I do not sing Rama.Ranbir said that since every devotee has his own identity and image of Lord Rama, no single actor can fulfill everyone’s expectations. In his opinion, the most important thing is the honesty, faith and respect of the athlete in his journey.“All the people who have watched the Ramayana, all have their own interpretation of Lord Ram. There is no fixed face. Many people may feel that I am wrong. Some people would say that I am a perfectionist. But the truth is that the proper singing of Ram can be any player who has good intentions and who has faith and belief in the journey of Lord Ram. “Yash, who essays Ravana in the film, also praised Ranbir’s commitment to the role during the same event. He described portraying Lord Rama as one of the most challenging things an actor can do and praised his colleague’s dedication.“It is not easy to play Lord Ram. The way Ranbir Kapoor has done it is amazing. He has worked very hard, and when you watch Ramayana, you will see a beautiful picture of Rama filled with purpose and sacrifice.”Ever since the trailer dropped, Ranbir’s portrayal of Lord Rama has remained a major topic of discussion on social media platforms. While some fans have expressed their happiness, others continue to question whether the actor’s acting style matches his character.Another user wrote, “Though I love Ranbir Kapoor and admire his work but seeing him as Shri Ram just feels so incomprehensible. I can’t see him in this role, and even hearing him speak fluent Hindi in these characters feels out of place.”Another said, “I was skeptical about Ranbir’s Hindi even before any Ramayana material was released. He is very good in urban roles but in these roles, he feels wrong.”Interestingly, ‘Ramayana’ will feature Ranbir in a double role, where he is expected to portray both Lord Rama and Lord Parshurama. Speaking to Collider, the actor revealed that he distinguished the two characters through their depth, spirituality, language and voice.“Lord Vishnu had different avatars. Lord Rama was an avatar, and Lord Parshurama was an avatar before Lord Rama. To get the opportunity, you know, how I started to play Lord Rama, playing Lord Parshurama again was fun. I think as an actor, without body language, I think if you understand more the spirituality and thoughts of the characters there, which I think I start shooting every year, which I think I shoot every year. Ramayana, to understand who these people are and the people they have, what they represent and the goals theirs.“Scheduled as a two-parter, ‘Ramayana’ is set to hit the theaters with its first installment on Diwali 2026. The film also featured Sai Pallavi as Sita as well. Sunny Deol like Hanuman.
