Producer Bhushan Kumar, however, has now put these rumors to rest, confirming that the film is almost over. In an interview with Showsha, he shared, “Anurag Basu’s film is ending now. It is more or less complete. We have to look at the release date and prepare for the release.”

In addition to this, Bhushan revealed that his production house, T-Series, is planning to start another project with Kartik Aaryan. The film, titled ‘Captain India’, will be directed by Shimit Amin, who was last seen directing ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman’ of the Year back in 2009. As he said, “We are now starting Captain India with Shimit and Kartik, next month.” Shimit is still famous for supporting the Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Chak De India’.
Bhushan Kumar’s change contradicts Anurag Basu’s previous statement
Interestingly, Bhushan’s statement is not in line with what Basu himself said a few months ago. In an April 2026 interview with Variety India, Anurag revealed that the film is still a long way off. “That the main shooting has been done is a myth. I have not shot more than 45 days for this film. The shooting has just started,” he said.

The film starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela was originally slated for release in December 2025 before it was pushed back. Rumors within the company indicated that there might be a fight with the office Ranveer Singh‘s ‘Dhurandhar’ as the reason, while others say the delay is similar to Mohit Suri’s hit ‘Saiyaara’. However, Basu was quick to refute such claims. “Mohit and I are very close. I am happy for the success of his film. The only similarity in our films is that the male lead is a rockstar, and the story is about his journey,” he told Mid-day.

Basu revealed that he already knew the plot of Saiyaara since Mohit Suri had already narrated it to him, showing the strong bond between the two directors. He added, “In my film, the girl doesn’t have dementia or anything [other condition]. We’re not writing or shooting anymore. I foresaw that the girl had Alzheimer’s disease in Saiyaara. So, why should I write the same [plot point] in mine?”.

As is known, Mohit Suri originally planned ‘Saiyaara’ as ‘Aashiqui 3’, but before the project was completed, he turned it into an independent film with the help of YRF.
