Amy WinehouseMitch Winehouse’s father has been ordered to pay two close friends of singer Mitch Winehouse after losing a High Court ruling over the sale of his property.According to the Press Association, the decision follows Winehouse’s unsuccessful action against Naomi Parry and Catriona Gourlay, who accused them of profiting from the sale of many of Amy Winehouse’s products at markets held in the United States in 2021 and 2023.Winehouse said the two women “deliberately concealed” the deal. However, the Supreme Court overruled his claim earlier this year, with Ms Justice Clarke finding that he had “always been aware” of the sales he was trying to sell and subsequently sought to evict the women for money in what the judge described as “an outrageous and unpleasant way.”
A judge criticizes Mitch Winehouse’s behavior
In his judgment handed down on Wednesday, Mr Justice Clarke strongly criticized Winehouse’s conduct throughout.“The claimant chose to bring the weak claims he was born with, pursued them aggressively and persistently to the end, and presented the defendants with serious and frivolous charges that caused serious damage to their reputations, job prospects, financial security and health,” the judge said.The court said that, as of April, Naomi Parry’s legal costs were £715,361, while Catriona Gourlay’s costs were £487,132.Mr Justice Clarke ordered Winehouse to pay £569,330 to Parry and £394,521 to Gourlay within the next two weeks.
Legal fees charged on payroll
According to the Press Association, Winehouse was also ordered to pay restitution to the women, a ruling that usually allows successful defendants to recoup large amounts of legal costs. Such orders are only given to people who have behaved inappropriately.The judge added that Winehouse “deliberately turned the case into a serious and expensive case, in which circumstances she tried to force the prosecution to agree to her demands.”He also said: “The fact that he did this deliberately and deliberately to two young women who stood faithfully with Amy, and to him and his family, who have shown their honesty and loyalty over the years, makes his reckless behavior all the more important.”The ruling ends Winehouse’s legal challenge over the late sale of the singer’s estate, with the court ruling in favor of Parry and Gourlay and ordering him to pay a large portion of their legal fees.
