For many professionals, leaving a stable job after marriage can feel like an uncertain decision. However, for Nishtha Rawat, this became a turning point that changed her life.Instead of looking for another corporate position, the Jaipur-based fashion designer decided to build what she had always dreamed of – her own clothing brand. She started at home, with no factory and just a few local tailors, fully responsible for everything from designing the clothes to responding to customers. Less than a year later, her brand Nehfi is reportedly raking in monthly revenue of Rs 14 lakh, proving that a well-planned idea coupled with consistent support can grow into a successful business. Her journey is an inspiring reminder that sometimes the greatest career opportunities begin at the end of your comfort zone.

From business graduate to fashion entrepreneur

Nishtha Rawat completed her graduation in Commerce and then pursued her Masters in Fashion Design from INIFD, Jaipur. After completing her studies, she spent almost four years working with different fashion brands, gaining practical experience in the industry.Although she loved her job, she had a long-term ambition to create a fashion brand of her own. After getting married, balancing a full-time corporate career and personal responsibilities becomes increasingly challenging. Rather than seeing the situation as a setback, Nishta saw it as an opportunity to realize a dream she had put off for years. In September 2024, she quit her job and laid the foundation for her fashion startup.Reflecting on the decision in a recent interview, Nishta said quitting her job finally gave her the chance to build the brand she had always wanted.

Identifying the gaps in women’s fashion

Nishtha spent a lot of time researching customer preferences before launching her business. She noticed that many women’s clothing brands either focus on ethnic wear with lots of embellishments, suitable for festivals and weddings, or on trendy Western wear. For women looking for stylish, comfortable clothing that’s suitable for everyday wear (to work, traveling, or casual outings), the options can seem slim. This observation became the basis for Nephi. The brand combines traditional Rajasthani craftsmanship with modern silhouettes to create contemporary, everyday clothing for women, especially those aged 22 to 40 years old.Its products are priced between Rs 1,299 and Rs 2,499, thereby attracting a wider customer base.

Start a business from home

Unlike many fashion startups that start with manufacturing facilities and large teams, Nishtha started from her home.During the first few months, she worked with local tailors sewing garments while she handled nearly every other aspect of the business herself.Collection design, branding, customer communication, packaging and order management all fall on her shoulders. The turning point came when a video of her outfit went viral on Instagram.Almost overnight, orders started pouring in.While the sudden popularity was exciting, it also presented one of her biggest business challenges.

Why did she refund over Rs 1 Lakh instead of lowering the quality?

The unexpected surge in demand disrupted production and delayed deliveries.Instead of sending substandard products or making customers wait indefinitely, Nishtha reportedly chose to refund orders worth over Rs 1 lakh. This decision resulted in short-term financial losses but helped maintain customer trust. To avoid similar problems in the future, she invested in an in-house manufacturing unit and assembled a team of 16 employees to increase production capacity and quality control. This experience served as an important lesson in scaling your business responsibly.

From start-up to well-known fashion brand

In just ten months, Nehfi has reportedly grown into a thriving fashion brand.According to public information, the brand owns:• Serving over 5,800 customers• Built a community of nearly 10,000 Instagram followers• Expand sales through own website, WhatsApp orders and offline stores in Jaipur and Raipur• Reported monthly income of Rs 14 LakhsAs part of its future expansion strategy, the company also plans to expand into international markets.

Lessons for aspiring entrepreneurs

Nishtha Rawat’s story is not just about resignation. It emphasizes the importance of identifying unmet customer needs, starting with available resources, and maintaining commitment even when challenges arise.Instead of waiting for perfect conditions, she started at home and continued to refine her business model by learning through experience.Perhaps the most important lesson in her journey came from the moment she first became famous. Rather than chasing immediate profits, she prioritized customer satisfaction and long-term credibility—an approach that helped strengthen her brand. For students and young professionals who dream of starting a business, Nishta’s experience shows that successful businesses are often built not through overnight success, but through thoughtful decision-making, resilience and a willingness to learn from setbacks.Disclaimer: This article is based on public information, interviews and details shared by Nishtha Rawat and her brand through public platforms.
