Politician Ravi Kishan has been in the film industry for over a decade and by his own admission, is known as a “nation breaker” and the “Brad Pitt of Bihar.” Ravi was recently asked about the recent difficulties of Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Satluj, which did not get a certificate, and despite its release on the OTT platform, it was taken down after two days. Ravi, a self-proclaimed “cinema encyclopedia”, was also asked about the certification body and how he would feel if one of his works was scrutinized by the CBFC.Asked about Satluj’s recent troubles, Ravi said there must have been a “story”. He distanced himself from the matter and said, “I know zero. I just know that the film came and was removed. To be honest, I don’t know the details.”He added that artists should be responsible for making films and said that in trying to make an interesting film, they “shouldn’t destroy any area or misrepresent past events.” Ravi then gave examples of Dhurandhar, Maa Behen and Netflix show Maamla Legal Hai and said that these projects were successfully released. Ravi worked as an actor in Maa Behen and Maamla Legal Hai.He said in an interview with Screen, “We have to answer to the people because what we do affects the youth. We have to be reliable in writing the script and making the movie.” He also said that in the past “books were burned, people were taught the wrong history” and he also said that movies should be more careful when accurately representing historical events.Ravi was then asked how we would feel if, as an actor, his work should be monitored by the CBFC, or if one of his films has a long list to be cut by the censor board. To this, Ravi said, “I will ask, ‘Why?’ I ask myself, ‘What did I do wrong?'”He then pointed out that the problems of enlightenment existed in India for a long time and spoke about the Emergency era in the 1970s. “It also happened during Sholay. It has happened with thousands of films. This also happened during Congress rule. Kishore Kumar was banned from the radio. Itihaas mein bahut tandav macha hai (History has such examples). But now if anything happens, I ask myself, ‘What’s wrong? I will ask if I am harming the community, distorting history, telling lies, and then I will correct myself.
